NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 6 of 35 – Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway

SHARPIE MINI 300 RECAP: NASCAR Nationwide teams unloaded at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for 300 laps of action-packed racing this weekend only to be faced with another weekend of rain delays. After no on-track activities on Friday for Nationwide teams and only one practice on Saturday morning, the field was set by Owner’s Point standings rules for the third time this season. Kevin Harvick and the No. 33 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet took the green flag for the Sharpie Mini 300 from the sixth position. Under cloudy skies, teams were not only racing the track, but also the rain that was threatening the area. Harvick ran in the top five for most of the day, and was in the process of moving back to the front of the field after a bad pit stop when the rain started to cover the World’s Fastest Half-Mile. The red flag was displayed on lap 171 and NASCAR eventually called the race official after the rain continued to fall. Completing only 171 of 300 laps, Harvick and the No. 33 team settled for a strong seventh-place finish. Leaving Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, the No. 33 team and Harvick continue to lead the Point Standings.

FIRST TIME, TOP ROOKIE HONORS: In just his first start at one of NASCAR’s fastest tracks, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Cale Gale raced his way to top Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors. Gale began the Nicorette 300 from the 15th starting position and wheeled the car hard all day long before crossing the finish line in the 20th position. This marks the first time Gale has received the Raybestos Rookie of the Race, a title that is awarded to the best finishing rookie contender in each race.

NASHVILLE STATS: In three career Nationwide Series starts, Gale has recorded two starts for KHI and one start for Phoenix Racing. His best start was 10th in 2006, and his best finish was 20th in 2006. He has completed 650 of 675 attempted laps.

CLOSE, CLOSER, ALMOST: In addition to three NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, Gale also has three Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) starts at the track. In 2006, Gale started from the ninth position and crossed the finish line in sixth place. Since then, his stats have only gotten better. In 2007 Gale ran two ARCA races at Nashville for KHI, starting from ninth and finishing fourth, followed by his best showing to date. The last time Gale was in an ARCA car at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, he won the pole and had a strong run as he took home a second-place finish.

CHASSIS HISTORY: Chassis No. 037 made its 2008 race debut earlier this year at Atlanta Motor Speedway with Gale behind the wheel of the No. 77 Rheem Chevrolet. Gale started the race from the 15th position before securing a solid 20th-place finish and the Rookie of the Race honors. Previous to this start, chassis No. 037 was on track last year with Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) driver and co-owner Kevin Harvick at Lowe’s (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. At both tracks Harvick scored top-15 finishes.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA: Before traveling to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for the Pepsi 300 last week, Gale made a detour through southern Alabama. For an appearance at the local Camping World store in Robertsdale, Ala., on Wednesday, March 12, and Thursday, March 13. Located near his hometown of Mobile, Ala., Gale was able to visit friends and family, and even took time to run a few laps around Mobile International Speedway before heading to the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.

BEFORE THE RACE WITH DRIVER CALE GALE:
This will mark your fourth start at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. What is your expectation this time around?
“Obviously, I expect to go there and run well. I came close to winning an ARCA race there last year and this year I know I have the equipment again to go out and run good. I am confident that I can run the top 10. I’m excited to go back and I definitely have high expectations for myself.”

This is the first time in 2008 that you will be behind the wheel of the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet. KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick has proven that this car is capable of running in the top five. Does this add more pressure to you to go out and perform well? “With Kevin (Harvick) having run in the top five for several weeks in a row and leading the points, there is added pressure to just maintain the consistency and help the Camping World team run up front and keep our position in the points. Having Kevin (Harvick) as a teammate and knowing how well he runs at these tracks, that pushes me to drive harder every time I get in the car.”

RACE PREP WITH CREW CHIEF WALLY ROGERS:
The No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet heads to Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway with Cale Gale behind the wheel for the first time this season. What do you as a crew chief like about this track and what are you expecting with Gale behind the wheel?
“I like going to Nashville. It’s a bigger track that runs like a short track. Cale (Gale) has experience at this track and I am looking forward to working with him in the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet team this year.”
