NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 12 of 35 – Darlington (S.C.)
Raceway
TOO
TOUGH TO TAME: Kevin Harvick will return to the wheel of the
No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Camping World Chevrolet this
Friday night at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. In nine previous
NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at the track, Harvick has one
top-five and five top-10 finishes. He has completed 99.8 percent
of laps attempted (1320 of 1323). Harvick will be making his
first start in the Nationwide Series for Kevin Harvick Inc. at
the track.
In addition to the Nationwide Series, Harvick has 11 starts in
the Cup Series at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, with two top-five
and four top-10 finishes. Even though the Truck Series no longer
races at Darlington, Harvick has recorded two starts at the
track, both for KHI. Of those two starts, Harvick has one
top-five and one top-10 finish.
BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER KEVIN HARVICK:
After leading 98 laps and finishing second at Richmond (Va.)
International Raceway: “I'm proud of everybody on this team.
We’re much better than we were early in the season, and
especially compared to where we were a year ago. We’re a
legitimate top-five car each week and we’ve been leading laps,
which means if we keep running like that, good things will keep
coming our way.”
CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 33 KHI Camping World team will
unload chassis No. 039 this weekend at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway
for the Diamond Hill Plywood 200. This chassis has one previous
start early this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where the
team unloaded the brand new chassis and Harvick wheeled it to a
solid fourth-place finish.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Kevin Harvick and the No. 33 KHI
Nationwide Series team looked to be heading to victory lane for
the first time this season and for the first time for Harvick in
a KHI-owned car. Harvick was running a strong second place when
on lap 143 the team pitted under caution and gained the lead
exiting pit road. Leading the next 98 laps, a late caution
caused team strategies to take effect. With the lead cars not
pitting, Denny Hamlin pitted for fresh tires and was able to
work his way through the field and pass Harvick for the lead on
lap 242. Harvick went on to a solid second-place finish, gaining
one position in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s Point
standings.
DOUBLE DUTY: Often when you hear “double duty” in NASCAR,
it’s referring to the driver’s running in two of NASCAR’s elite
series in the same weekend, usually the Nationwide and Cup
Series. In Richmond, this term took on a new meaning for the No.
33 team. Not only did the team pit for Harvick, but several
members of the No. 33 team also helped pit Morgan Shepherd’s
car. With Shepherd off the lead lap, providing no conflict with
the team’s main focus, the KHI crew was able to assist on
Shepherd’s car.
