Hornaday and Fellows Test KHI
Busch Cars at Iowa Speedway
In preparation for the back-to-back NASCAR Busch Series
road-course events coming up this summer, both Kevin Harvick
Inc. (KHI) Busch Series teams visited Iowa Speedway on the way
to Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway, Thursday, July 19.
On August 4th, NASCAR Busch Series teams will travel to Montreal
to compete at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road-course event
for the first time in the Series history. From there, the Busch
Series teams will then travel the following weekend to Watkins
Glen (N.Y.) International for the August 11 road-course event.
Road-course ace Ron Fellows drove 11-hours from Mississauga,
Ontario Canada to Iowa Speedway to test the No. 33 Camping World
Chevrolet with KHI Truck Series driver Ron Hornaday behind the
wheel of the No. 77 Dollar General stores Chevrolet.
Arriving Thursday morning, the two KHI Busch Series teams
prepped the cars for testing. General Manager, Rick Carelli, and
Fellows mapped out the road course and decided that it would be
to the teams benefit to run the course in the opposite
direction from its standard layout. By running in the opposite
direction, there is a segment of right and left corners that is
similar to the layout of the course in Montreal.
Just past lunchtime, Hornaday was the first to climb behind the
wheel and test the 1.3-mile road course located inside of the
7/8-mile tri-oval speedway. Reviewing the feedback and data from
the No. 77 Chevrolet, Fellows climbed behind the wheel of the
No. 33 Chevrolet to take his spin around the course.
The KHI Busch Series teams tested for the majority of the
afternoon and concluded with good data and driver feedback for
the dual road-course events scheduled this summer. Loading the
two cars back into the test hauler, the No. 77 and No. 33 teams
departed for the KHI team plane bound for St. Louis.
NASCAR Busch Series teams are scheduled to be on-track at the
Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway Friday, July 20, 2007 from
7:00 to 8:00 p.m., ET for first practice and 9:00 to 10:00 p.m.,
ET for final practice. Busch Series teams will qualify for the
250-mile event on Saturday at 4:35 p.m., ET and the field will
go green-flag racing Saturday night at 8:30 p.m., ET. |
