Three-Time NASCAR
Truck Series Champion (2007, 1998, 1996)
Ron
Hornaday's NASCAR Truck Series statistics speak volumes. In 205
starts, Hornaday scored 17 poles, a series-record 34 wins, 96
top-five and 144 top-10 finishes. He is also a three-time NASCAR
Truck Series champion.
Hornaday is a man who can drive the wheels off of a truck, and he
has fun doing it. Of truck racing, Hornaday says, "It is truly my
love. This is the series that made my name..."
However, it is not the only series Hornaday made a name for
himself in. In 1992, he won his first NASCAR Southwest Tour
Championship and was named the series' Most Popular Driver. He
repeated his Championship the following year, the only driver in
history to have done so. In 1994, he was named the Most Popular
Driver of the NASCAR Winston West Series. Then the NASCAR Truck
Series
He finished fifth in points in the inaugural NASCAR Truck Series
season in 1995. He won the championship one year later. History
repeated itself as Hornaday finished fifth and first in points the
following two seasons, respectively. He was also named the
series' Most Popular Driver in 1997. He finished seventh in his
final Truck Series season in 1999, moving on to the Nationwide
Series one year later.
He was named Most Popular Driver in the Nationwide Series and
finished fifth in points his first season. He won three events
that year as well. His most successful Nationwide Series season
came in 2003, when he piloted Richard Childress' No. 2 ACDelco
Chevrolet to a third-place finish in points on the strength of one
win and 31 top-20 finishes.
Ron Hornaday returned to the NASCAR Truck Series in 2005 behind
the wheel of KHI's No. 6 Chevy Silverado. He finished fourth in
the series’ points standings on the strength of 13 top-10 finishes
and seven top-five finishes. Hornaday followed that up with a
seventh-place effort in 2006 at the wheel of KHI's No. 33 Chevy
Silverado, earned by scoring two wins, one pole, eight top-fives
and 12 top-10s. At the same time, Hornaday made 12 Nationwide
Series starts for KHI, earning two top-five finishes and four
top-10s.
In 2007, Hornaday enjoyed the success of another championship
season by claiming the NASCAR Truck Series championship for the
third time. He picked up four wins, 13 top-five and 22 top-10
finishes. He also scored the pole position at Atlanta Motor
Speedway in October.
Hornaday will be back in the driver’s seat of the No. 33 Camping
World Chevrolet in 2008 and will be looking to have another
successful season for KHI.
”I am really excited about the 2008 season. The NASCAR Truck
Series is so competitive and there are so many great competitors
in this series,” Hornaday said. “Coming off of a year like we had
last year with winning the championship, I am really looking
forward to 2008.” |
